The 3rd Annual Tribute to Tuba Fats This Afternoon

The French Market is the spot to be from 1-8 PM on Friday November 27th. From 1-8 p.m. Two stages will be set up and over 20 tuba players, along with eight bands will perform culminating in an all-star jam featuring Kirk Joseph, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Donald Harrison, Jr., Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes, Doug Belote, Anders Osborne, John Gros and Johnny Vidacovich.

Anthony “Tuba Fats” Lacen was a huge influence on two generations of traditional jazz and brass band musicians in New Orleans. His spirit lives on (he passed in 2004) and his legacy is celebrated every year on black Friday. The music begins with the giant tuba choir at 1 PM on the steps of Washington Artillery Park.
