Yonder Mountain String Band Plays the House of Blues

During the 2006 Jazz Fest, as all New Orleanians were beginning the recovery from the devastation caused by the levee failures after Hurricane Katrina, the Yonder Mountain String Band put on one of the best sets I have ever seen from a young band on such a significant stage.  They are a deceptively simple ensemble- just four pieces- an upright bass, banjo, guitar and mandolin.  But their music is very powerful and they generate considerable crowd interaction.  They had one of the biggest crowds I have ever seen at the Fais Do Do Stage and their fans were invested heavily in the music.  Encores are rare at the Jazz Fest, but back in 2006, the Yonder Mountain String Band got one.  They perform this evening, January 28, 2010.
