The City of New Orleans Gears Up for Essence Fest


This weekend marks the 15th annual Essence Festival and organizers are predicting that this year’s event will be the biggest since the federal flood that followed Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  Advance ticket sales have been strong as fans of R&B and hip hop begin making plans to arrive in New Orleans in anticipation of the big event. Beyonce headlines the event and the rest of the lineup features a who’s who of greats including Maxwell, John Legend, Anita Baker, Lionel Richie, Robin Thicke, Ne-Yo, Salt-N-Pepa, Charlie Wilson, Jazmine Sullivan, Al Green, Teena Marie, En Vogue, and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.  New Orleans’ own DJ Soul Sister will spin the wheels the steel from the main stage each night.  The intimate SuperLounges also feature a great cast of local and national acts including Eric Benet, Solange, Dan Dyer, Janelle Monae, Ryan Leslie, Raphael Saadiq, Dwele, The Knux, Lalah Hathaway, Blind Boys of Alabama, Little Freddie King, Trombone Shorty, the Rebirth Brass Band, Zap Mama, Melanie Fiona, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Sierra Leone’s Refugee Allstars.
