At long last New Orleans jazz bassist and Loyola University professor Jesse Boyd is releasing a CD of all original material called “True Storiesâ€. The recording features New York born and New Orleans based pianist Michael Pellera and Baton Rouge born drummer Troy Davis. They will debut the recording at New Orleans premiere jazz club, Snug Harbor on August 25, 2009
Set to be release under independent record label Contrabass Music Inc, the recording draws freely from the influences of New Orleans and New York jazz, given the unique perspective that the three musicians have developed over years of performing as sidemen with many of the jazz greats.
The album, appropriately named “True Stories,” tells stories that many New Orleanians can identify with, such as moving to a new place in the heat of August, finally returning to the street where they live after the storm, or spending their disposable income to support the cultural economy of the city. The CD includes a wide gamut of genres, latin, blues, funk, swing, ballads and waltz.
